Hi, I’m Xiao!

Xiao shares a similar pronunciation to 'shell'. Born and raised in Shanghai, China, I moved to the United States when I was 14. After picking up my first camera at that time, I have been obsessed with it ever since. I studied Art Practice in college, and one of my professors inspired me to transform my passion into a career later on.

My personality type is ENFJ (extraverted, intuitive, feeling, and judging). The 16 personalities test labeled me as a 'protagonist,' and I totally agree with it. Since I was young, I have strived to have a positive impact on others. At first, I only considered photography as a hobby. After several years as an amateur photographer, friends and strangers told me how much they liked my photos and how they offered a different perspective of the world. Then, I started to consider the influence and impact of my photos. To me, photography is my third language, and I use my photos to convey my love for life.

I love meeting new people and getting to know them on a personal level. Through photography, I have met so many interesting souls, and I am still in contact with lots of my clients because I don't just want to be your photographer for one day; I want to be your friend. When I am photographing, I always feel that I am the luckiest person in the world because I get to document so much happiness in a format that you can always look back on and laugh. Photography is not only a job, but rather my biggest passion.

Xiao Photography is here to capture your most precious moments, whether it's a beautiful countryside wedding or a small family gathering in your backyard. I focus on storytelling in my photography because I love documenting people's authentic feelings and intimate relationships. My goal is to use photos to capture the beauty of ordinary life. I'm committed to creating images that will last for years and years. During our session, I want to guide you to bring out the uniqueness of you, your family, and your partner. When you look back at the photos, I want you to feel that 'moment' all over again.

When I'm not out shooting photos for clients or editing images at home, you can find me traveling the world with my camera and my husband. We're always on the hunt for good food, and I love watching beautiful sunrises and sunsets whenever I'm free. Cooking is another hobby of mine, and if we become good friends, I'll even invite you to my home for a meal.

My family

I met my husband Ricky while we both studied in UC Berkeley. We share many differences but we share the same passion towards life, adventures, and love. We just got married on November, 2022. We are both travel enthusiasts and foodie. If you need travel/food recommendation, we are here!

Cola and Sprite are our two Pomeranians. Cola is the older and grumpy brother while Sprite is the younger and adorable sister. They always sleep by my side when I am editing photos at home.
