The First Day of Our Marriage feels like this

J & W asked me to capture their mini wedding ceremony at San Francisco City Hall at 9 am. Over the past year, I've received many requests for San Francisco City Hall engagement photo and wedding photo sessions. One thing I always believe is that even though it's only one location, every couple has a different vibe. For me, it's important to capture the uniqueness of each couple.

Through our prior video call before their wedding day, I got to know J & W's personalities and their vision for what they wanted me to capture during the event. J's request was very simple: 'Record the whole process, document ourselves and our friends. I don't want it to be traditional posed wedding photography. I want it to be authentic and genuine.'

The wedding day didn't go as smoothly as planned. J & W forgot to bring their wedding certificate, which they needed in order to proceed with the ceremony, so they had to go through the certificate procedure all over again. Maybe because it was their wedding day, they were still smiling and laughing throughout the entire process.

These are my favorite photos from their wedding certificate part, when W helped J to put on and organize her bow on her wedding dress before they went inside to sign the documents. It is a small detail but you could see the attention W put on J.

With just a few friends and me as witnesses, the couple's ceremony took place in the Rotunda of City Hall, at the top of the stairs, and lasted only 15 minutes.

After their ceremony, I took some group photos of themselves with their friends at the second floor.

This series is my favorite capture from J & W's wedding day. After wearing high heels for a while, J was exhausted, even though we had talked about practicing wearing them for a few days beforehand. J did not like high heels, and they seemed to be a burden for her, so I asked her to take them off after the wedding ceremony. W held her high heels in his hands while J changed into her UGG boots, which she seemed much more comfortable in (just like me). Then, I asked them to run towards me from the other end of the hallway, and that's how we created this series. I edited the photos in black and white with a few touches of vintage/film style because it's more classic and great for capturing motion.

We moved to the 4th floor to take elegant and classic photos of just the two of them. The beautiful architecture of City Hall required minimal editing. J and W specifically requested soft color tone.
